Identity Verification

What identity documents do I need?

You'll need a valid photo ID and a live selfie to verify your identity. Depending on your country and the account or currency you're applying for, we may also ask for proof of address or additional information.

Accepted photo IDs are an international passport or driving licence.

The app will show the exact requirements that apply to you before you begin.

What additional information is required in each country?

The requirements vary by country:

United Kingdom and Canada

You'll generally need a valid photo ID. No additional national identification number is required based on the current onboarding requirements.

Nigeria

You'll need your Bank Verification Number (BVN) and National Identification Number (NIN) in addition to the required identity information.

Kenya

You'll need your KRA PIN as part of the verification process.

Additional documents may be requested depending on your account or currency requirements.

What happens if my BVN or NIN won't verify?

If you're in Nigeria, check that the name and date of birth on your Foren profile exactly match the details registered against your BVN or NIN.

If the details match and verification still fails, contact us with a screenshot of the error, and we'll help you investigate.

What happens if my KRA PIN won't verify?

If you're in Kenya, check that the KRA PIN you've entered matches your official registration details.

If the details are correct and verification still fails, contact us with a screenshot of the error.

What counts as proof of address?

Proof of address must show your full name and current residential address and must be dated within the period specified in the app.

Depending on your country, accepted documents may include:

  • UK: utility bill, bank statement or council tax bill.
  • Canada: utility bill, bank statement or government correspondence, such as a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) notice.
  • Nigeria: utility bill, such as an electricity bill, or bank statement from a commercial bank.
  • Kenya: bank statement or utility bill, subject to the current verification requirements.

The app will show the documents accepted for your country.

Why was my proof of address rejected?

Common reasons include:

  • The address does not match the address on your Foren profile.
  • The document is outside the permitted date range.
  • The name on the document does not match your identity details.
  • The document is cropped, unclear, or difficult to read.
  • The document type is not accepted for your country.

We'll tell you the reason for rejection where we're able to do so. If you're unsure what to provide next, contact us at help@foren.co.

I've moved. How do I update my address?

Go to Profile → Personal details → Address, enter your new address, and upload the required proof of address.

Your new address may be subject to verification before it becomes active on your account.

How long does verification take?

Identity checks are usually completed quickly, but some applications require additional review.

Where a proof-of-address review is required, this can take up to 48 business hours.

If your verification has taken longer than the stated timeframe, contact us through the app or live chat and we'll check the status for you.
